As a component of my preliminary research tasks I needed to conduct to reveal background knowledge on my chosen genre of music (indie/alternative rock) which the content of my magazine would be focused upon, I collected three music videos that relate to the chosen theme I wish to model in my product. I'm interested in doing an Indie/alternative genre so these videos have been inspirational in helping me as they indicate towards specific colour schemes, themes, images, texts and conventions that are commonly scene within this sub category of music. Therefore it would be in my personal interests to try and replicate these in a written form as it would allow my editorial techniques to conform more towards the basis of what could be anticipated from a production focusing on this topic, furthermore this would give me the advantage of directly relating to the personal interests and requirements of my target audience as their individual needs shall have been met.
LANA DEL REY
This is the official music video for 'National Anthem' by the artist Lana Del Rey. She is extremely popular in the alternative/indie scene and I feel she would be beneficial for marketing my music magazine as she fits in with the genre perfectly as I wish my product to focus upon this specific area of music and therefore this standard of musician. Lana appeals both to both male and females, which is what i'm intending - for women she provides a sense of familarity and recongnition that a female artist is so big in the music charts whilst for men she appeals physically as she emphasis sexual attraction. Recently she has become well broadcasted and known both in the Hit40 chart and radio stations, whilst also contributing massively to other famous music magazines main article (for instance Q featured an exclusive interview/write up about her recently adhering to her rising popularity), since she is well known she'd be excellent used in promoting my own magazine as hopefully this tactic will attract readers to buy the product.MUSE
Displayed above is my second inspiration, the massively influential alternative rock band Muse performing their hit single 'Starlight'. I have looked at this artist in particular are they are easily renowned as Great Britain's most famous band in the indie/rock scene and would be excellent featured in my magazine, I'd feel if the audiences saw them advertised in an article within they'd be much more likely to at least browse it in curiosity due to the massive popularity of Muse and the many followers they have in this genre. Personally I find their music incredibly appealing as each song they produce has huge variety within the lyrics and instrumental procession, and because I'd like my magazine to include a sense of uniqueness I feel how they vary their music would be beneficial in promoting my idea that there is widespread variety in my product
100 MONKEYS
This particular band I genuinely believe really helps to emphasise the message in my magazine that it focuses on not just massively popular well known alternative/rock artist but lesser known ones as well therefore promoting a huge variety with the articles that are produced. The 100 monkeys are a stateside band and one of my favourites yet they are not well recognised in the UK, I feel featuring artists like these would be beneficial, not only due to them fitting the genre of the magazine exactly but because they are giving others the chance to read about artists and bands that are upcoming on the scene and are not well known compared to mainstream musicians of this type.
